RangerTour: Crane Hike

Great Bird Migration. Autumn is the travel season for cranes. Gathering and resting places become the stage for impressive natural spectacles. The Lower Oder Valley National Park is home to one of the largest crane roosts in the German inland. Up to 10,000 of these majestic birds populate the expansive river floodplain landscape between Gartz (Oder) and the Polish town of Gryfino for a few weeks. Before the cranes fly from their feeding grounds to their roosting sites in the floodplain each evening, you can listen to an exciting lecture about cranes. Afterwards, you will experience the grand spectacle of the arriving cranes on a walk along the dyke by the Oder.
