Kleine Planken, 68723 Schwetzingen

Born in France in 1982, the street music festival has now spread throughout Europe. On June 21st, music is celebrated in the streets of nearly 100 German cities – free of charge and with free admission! In 2026, we will celebrate music all day long until sunset. We look forward to countless bands, combos, choirs, ensembles, and soloists who will fill Schwetzingen with music, from the castle square in the center to the gardens of the neighborhoods. It will only be quiet after sunset. One will search in vain for a schedule, as the music guides visitors through Schwetzingen – there is no timetable! About 40 years ago, on the first day of summer in 1982 – with a few power outlets and a lot of musical idealism – it was born in Paris. The French Minister of Culture had the idea to celebrate music on the longest day of the year, specifically: to celebrate street music. Since then, the festival has spread throughout Europe. Schwetzingen has been part of it since 2021. The small town in the metropolitan region, which has been exuding music since the time of Carl Theodor in the summer, is perfectly suited for this festival. Both musicians and listeners enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and stroll through the Mediterranean-like city center. Instead of having installed stages like at a classic city festival, a little musical "surprise" can be found around every corner at the Fête. Diversity, spontaneity, and togetherness are the top priorities!
