Michaelismarkt translates to "Michaelmas Market" in English.

The Michaelismarkt was, a long, long time ago, a so-called free market for shoemakers and tanners in Treysa. It later developed into a "flea and livestock market." The market was likely no longer held after the First World War! Thus, the Michaelismarkt is a true traditional market and is one of the oldest markets in the city. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Michaelismarkt was discontinued and was only revived in 1985 by the Trade and Commerce Association of Treysa. From the very beginning, the Michaelismarkt was a highlight among the Schwalm markets and has developed over the years into a firm institution for the Schwalm region. Today, the Michaelismarkt has become an exceptionally attractive market due to its colorful variety and spatial expansion, and it is now even considered one of the largest markets in all of North Hesse! This year, the traditional market will once again attract thousands of visitors to the city.
