Lecture at the parlor of the New Castle Freyenstein - "Duncker and the Lost Castle"

Alexander Duncker created a unique visual memory of Prussian castle and estate culture with his colored lithographs. Particularly impressive and with extraordinary attention to detail, his depictions capture the architecture, landscape, and noble living culture of the 19th century. The lecture on February 13, 2026, at 6:30 PM in the parlor of the New Castle Freyenstein will focus on Duncker's lithographic works, with an emphasis on the Old Castle Freyenstein. Using selected examples, the speaker Andrea Müllenberg will demonstrate how Duncker portrayed the castle and its surroundings and the significance these representations hold to this day. She will also address the question of what the artist actually saw in Freyenstein around 1855 of the Renaissance castle and what can be attributed to fiction. Before the lecture (starting at 5:30 PM), there will be an opportunity to visit the Old Castle Freyenstein with an audio guide for an admission fee, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the topic. During a break in the lecture, a buffet will invite participants to refresh themselves and engage in discussions. A small donation is requested to support the work of the Friends of the Museum.
