Bronnbach & Gamburg - Two Extraordinary Buildings of the Late Romantic Period

Special tour with Hans-Georg von Mallinckrodt, Gamburg. In Bronnbach, the church and the cloister buildings from the main construction phase of the second half of the 12th century are almost completely preserved. The same is true for Gamburg. There, the richly decorated hall building, one of the best-preserved secular structures of the time, surprises with its significant wall paintings. The excursion will first convey the architectural history in Bronnbach and explain the stylistic peculiarities of the buildings. Following that, Gamburg will be visited. The very representative nature of Gamburg will be illustrated through the probably oldest secular wall paintings north of the Alps found there. Through the buildings in Bronnbach and Gamburg, not only will the construction activities of the High Middle Ages be explained, and insights into the stylistic and formal design of various construction tasks be provided, but they will also be presented as testimonies to the vibrant history of the 12th century in the Tauber Valley.

12:15 – 13:45: Special tour of the Bronnbach Monastery. Drive to Gamburg (approx. 7 km) with your own vehicle.

14:00 – 16:30: Coffee and cake at Gamburg, followed by a special tour of Gamburg.
