In his life as a writer, Fontane often dealt with "old churches," whether in his "Wanderings through the Mark Brandenburg" or in his novels. But he was also a combative spirit who took communities and patrons to task when they insisted on freshly painted "normal churches." Therefore, the 'wanderer' and novelist will be discussed in the lecture by Prof. Dr. Hubertus Fischer, as will the advocate of "old churches." His critical confrontations with the 'renewers' and Protestant 'purists' have lost little of their relevance.
