Belcanto between Love, Freedom, and Virtuosity
Nicola Proksch, coloratura soprano
Wolfgang Fritzsche, piano
In this magnificent Belcanto concert, Nicola Proksch unfolds the full spectrum of colors from the French/Italian opera of the 19th century. Famous arias from works by Offenbach, Bizet, Gounod, Massenet, Rossini, Auber, and Donizetti tell stories of youthful exuberance, deep love, longing, courage, and national pathos. From the ethereal poetry of "Olympia" to Juliette's exuberant "Je veux vivre," a wide emotional arc is spanned. Rossini's dramatic soundscapes and Donizetti's brilliant virtuosity—crowned by the famous cabaletta "Salut à la France"—bring brilliance and spirited bravura to the evening.
This concert is a tribute to Belcanto, to sparkling coloraturas, expressive lines, and to those operatic characters that continue to touch and inspire us today. A concert for opera lovers as well as curious newcomers.
