Farm tour at the farm of Focko Smit in Dykhusen/Visquard

East Frisia - Land of Cows... East Frisia is characterized by vastness, the sea, fields, and above all, cows. But how does a dairy cow actually live on a modern farm? How do modern agriculture, environmental protection, and climate protection fit together?

We invite you to visit the farm of the Smit family in Dykhusen/Visquard, where 270 cows call home. Focko Smit will guide you through the operation and explain the workflows, feeding, and the technology used. You will learn why the cows are equipped with sensors, what a total mixed ration is, and the significance of rumination time and cow comfort. You will see how the cows are milked in a swing-over milking parlor and how electricity is produced from the manure in a farm biogas plant.

The Smit family has already been awarded the Milk Land Prize by the State Association of Dairy Farming twice for their sustainable dairy farming practices. Immerse yourself in the exciting world of agriculture and experience how food is produced! Duration: approximately 2 hours. Meeting point: at 2:00 PM at the Dykhusen/Visquard farm, Dykhuser Straße 9, 26736 Krummhörn-Visquard. Start: at the biogas plant (two white roofs). Own travel required.

Note: Participation in the tour is only possible with a valid ticket. Minimum number of participants: 6 / maximum 15 people.
