Hermine - A Staged Costume Tour in Pewsum

Meet Ms. Hermine Heusler-Edenhuizen in front of the Manningaburg in Pewsum. Let her take you on a journey through her eventful life. Hermine provides insights into her life's work, women's medicine around the year 1900. Hermine Heusler-Edenhuizen was the first officially recognized and practicing female doctor in Germany, graduating with "summa cum laude." Independent and self-confident, she successfully forged her own path. Tour guide Heike Niebuhr-Barfs takes on the role of Hermine for this presentation. She welcomes guests at the Pewsum marketplace and leads them during the tour to her former residence, the Manningaburg. There, at the original site, Hermine's life is illustrated with all the challenges a woman had to face over 100 years ago if she wanted to assert herself in a male-dominated field.
