Forest Garden Tour – Insights into a Sustainable Future

Discover the unique features of this innovative form of land use and experience firsthand how healthy soils, high biodiversity, and pleasant tree shade contribute to sustainable agriculture. Our forest garden project demonstrates how multilayered systems of fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, climbing plants, herbs, and ground covers mimic the structure of a forest, thereby contributing to biodiversity, healthy soil life, and CO2 sequestration. Since October 2021, we have been transforming one hectare of arable land with soil-improving measures and have been planting a wide variety of trees, shrubs, herbs, and edible perennials since spring 2022. In collaboration with students, faculty, and researchers from Leuphana University of Lüneburg, we have planned and continuously developed area designs and planting actions. Additionally, various educational formats have been designed. In the next step, we will demonstrate how such a system can be economically viable through economic monitoring. During the 90-minute tour, you will learn about the unique aspects of a forest garden and exchange ideas with other interested participants.
