Erik Satie (1866-1925), the quiet revolutionary of Parisian modernity, continues to influence jazz, pop, film, and experimental music to this day. But how well do we actually know him? On the occasion of his 160th birthday, Elisabeth Arend aims to bring his unique life to life through anecdotes and his own writings, while Victor Nicoara will perform at the piano, navigating the journey from his early failures to later successes. An old Japanese proverb says: If you are unsure of a person's character, look at their friends. Therefore, Satie's close friendship with Claude Debussy (1862-1918) will also be discussed, as Debussy fully developed many of Satie's brilliant musical ideas in his first volume of Préludes. An evening filled with absurd humor, deep melancholy, quirky mysticism, and ethereal dreaminess. The originally scheduled event (Those who want to live must be willing to die) unfortunately had to be canceled. Purchased tickets remain valid for this event but can also be refunded at the points of sale where they were bought.
