When people go to sleep, the animals of the night awaken. These creatures often seem like they come from another world, fascinating and shrouded in mystery. The rangers bring a little light into the darkness during the Long Nature Watch Night in almost all major protected areas and introduce their guests to the mostly (un)familiar inhabitants of the night using nets, detectors, and lights. Bats have fascinated people for centuries. As dusk falls, these silent hunters flit through the air on their hunt, often only recognizable to the human eye as fleeting shadows. During the Long Nature Watch Night, interested individuals can get unusually close to these flying mammals in the Nature and Star Park Westhavelland. Ranger Bea Koch will share interesting facts about bats and their nocturnal activities right on site. With this knowledge, the two-legged night owls will approach the bats using so-called bat detectors. A capture operation led by a bat expert is also planned. This will allow for a close-up identification of which bat species it is. For participation, comfortable, mosquito-proof clothing suitable for the weather is recommended, and a flashlight and sturdy footwear are helpful. A camera can also be used to capture a specimen that has been caught in the net in another way. This event is part of the "Ranger and Experience Tours" offerings.
