Feldkirch's Quarter Whispers | The Education Quarter in Goaßzipfl

School history in Feldkirch. The Goaßzipfl at the upper end of the Neustadt is a district where educational history was made. Around 1550, both the German school and the Latin school were located here, directly beneath the Schattenburg, making the area a significant center of learning. At the German school, children—remarkably also girls—acquired basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. The Latin school, on the other hand, prepared a total of 470 students for university studies between 1436 and 1550. Among its graduates were notable figures such as the esteemed physician and geographer Hieronymus Münzer, as well as Bartholomäus Bernardi, who was the first priest to take the step into marriage. Under the annual theme "Feldkirch's Quarter Whispers," the focus tours in 2026 will open the doors to the hidden stories of the city and invite visitors to discover Feldkirch from new perspectives. Quarter by quarter, memories, peculiarities, and quiet narratives unfold, making Feldkirch so vibrant and multifaceted.
