Feldkirch's Quarter Whispers | Rössle Park and Ganahl Area

Before the gates in the Felsenau. At the southern entrance of Feldkirch, we explore the impressive Ganahl area on the banks of the Ill River. As early as the time of Emperor Maximilian, the Feldkirch marksmen practiced their marksmanship here in the "Au." Starting in the 19th century, an urban recreational facility was established in this area – the so-called Tschavollpark. The park, now better known as Rösslepark, was once equipped with a pavilion and a bathing facility and developed into a popular promenade for the first spa guests and summer visitors of the Montfort city about 150 years ago. In the adjacent former cotton spinning mill, spindles, bobbins, and looms clattered since the early 19th century – it is one of the first cotton spinning mills in the country. Today known as the Ganahl area, this district in the Au not only represents a significant chapter in the regional textile history but also one of the most important urban recreational and usage areas of Feldkirch. Under the annual theme "Feldkirch's Quarter Whispers," the focus tours in 2026 will open the doors to the hidden stories of the city and invite visitors to discover the city from new perspectives. Quarter by quarter, memories, peculiarities, and quiet tales unfold, making Feldkirch so vibrant and multifaceted. Together, the tours form an exciting overall mosaic that shows how diverse Feldkirch is – and how much its quarters shape the face of the city. Meeting point: Palais Liechtenstein
