ROLAND BATIK TRIO

For decades, the jazz formation led by pianist and composer Roland Batik has been one of the leading trios both nationally and internationally. On the occasion of the 75th birthday of the master pianist and his fifty-year stage anniversary, the band has developed a brand new program that remains true to its tonal and melodic character while incorporating many new and exciting aspects.

Heinrich Werkl (double bass) and Walter Grassmann (drums) are congenial, creative partners in the Roland Batik Trio, providing the band with numerous impulses for a timeless jazz style rooted in European musical tradition. The more than three-decade-long musical partnership does not stagnate in routine; rather, the trio embarks on exciting musical journeys where concept and improvisation are redefined. From the very beginning, and this is something he shares with his teacher Friedrich Gulda, jazz has been for Roland Batik more than just an excursion into another musical scene, making the jazz club, in comparison to the grand concert halls, an equally valid space that he fills with wonderful music.
