Collecting seashells is certainly part of every beach walk. But what types of shells are there, and how do they differ, not only in shape and color but also in their way of life and function in the Wadden Sea? They feed on plankton, burrow into the sand, or cling to the seabed with strong threads, serve as the sea's filtration system, and are also a food source for other animals. With a spirit of inquiry and fun, we will explore together in the permanent exhibition and the in-house laboratory of the Wadden Sea Visitor Center at South Beach the anatomy of shells and snails, discover their age, and answer the question of why an animal with a hard shell belongs to the mollusks. We will also look at which mollusks occur in other seas and which snails are among the most poisonous animals. This will also clarify the question of the fastest snail in the world. This tour is particularly suitable for families!
