City Tour Lauffen "St. Martin's Church"

Guided tour of the Martinskirche in the "Städtle". Cost: €6. The current Protestant Martinskirche in the "Lauffener Städtle" on the right bank of the Neckar River was originally built around 1200 as a chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas, simultaneously with the founding of the "Städtle." After the Reformation (1517), the church fell into disrepair until it was consecrated and revitalized as Martinskirche following a renovation in 1884. Under the motto "A church tells history," retired pastor Gerhard Kuppler narrates the story of the Lauffener Martinskirche located at the top of Lauffener Städtle by the Heilbronner Tor. It was built as a house of worship for the newly founded town of Lauffen in the 13th century and stands as a vivid testament to the inseparable blend of religion—reflecting hopes and fears—money, art, and power. Unique frescoes from two centuries adorn the choir.
