"Wias hoed schao zuaged – An Achleitner Evening"

Wolfgang Marschall, Karl Pumberger-Kasper, and Klaus Ranzenberger are hosting a very special evening centered around the significant Innviertel dialect poet Franz Achleitner. Markus Edtbauer will provide musical accompaniment.

Achleitner's poems – whether they are "obdaennsa," "schnodahibbfö," "gschdanzl," or "innviaddla liddanai" – are strongly influenced by the Innviertel region: dry humor, directness, depth, and a touch of cheekiness. They present a vivid portrait of the people from Innviertel: down-to-earth (mai god na mai god na wosis schao kanada), self-assured (mia san mia und mia raggan a fia via), stubborn (midn schedl kaosd duach dwaond), and they also touch on village life (jausndrong zenddaischlong), interpersonal relationships (do löggs de nida da sebb und dö frida), and much more. Achleitner critically observes the changes of recent decades: loss of dialect (dialegd is a schmoan), exploitation of nature (iwamoang is schao vafoan da koan), and increasing haste (drawö schais drawö).

Pumberger-Kasper will read the dialect poems, Marschall will provide relevant reports from Innviertel newspapers and also fitting prose texts by Achleitner, while Ranzenberger will contribute his stories about "Uncle Franz." Edtbauer will play (piano, accordion) and sing, among other things, Achleitner's "gschdanzl." This unique presentation creates a wonderful symbiosis. Achleitner's poems will be illuminated in a special way, highlighted, and new perspectives will emerge.

This evening is also a premiere, as until now, only Achleitner himself has recited his poems.

Friedrich Achleitner was born in 1930 as the son of a miller in Schalchen, district of Braunau, and passed away in 2019 in Vienna. During his studies in the 1950s, he joined the legendary Wiener Gruppe and, along with H. C. Artmann and Gerhard Rühm, is considered one of the key founders of modern Austrian poetry in dialect. Achleitner is regarded as one of the most significant Austrian lyricists of the 20th century with his poems.

Visitors can expect an extraordinary evening in multiple ways. "Kimsd eh," Achleitner would say.
