An extraordinary string quartet experience from 1772 Schuppanzigh Quartet: The Cologne formation was founded in 1996 by violinist Anton Steck. A date of significant importance, as exactly 200 years earlier, the namesake, the Viennese violinist Ignaz Schuppanzigh (1776–1830), formed the first professional string quartet with a fixed lineup. This historical predecessor premiered works by Beethoven and Schubert, among others. In this spirit, the present Schuppanzigh Quartet aims to revive the spirit of the old times. In this program featuring compositions from 1772, an important connection to the history of the city of Radolfzell is mentioned: the founding of the city orchestra in honor of Empress Maria Theresa.
