TOURDATA

Dornbirn, 6850 Dornbirn

Testing a hail cannon, discovering what the moon smells like, and controlling a cable car yourself – there's a lot going on at LNF26.

The Long Night of Research offers both young and old insights into a variety of fields of knowledge: from natural sciences to digitalization to medicine. On April 24, 2026, doors to laboratories, experiments, and workshops that are usually closed will open in Dornbirn and Lustenau from 5 PM to 11 PM. And then it's time to be curious, ask questions, and experience science up close!

NEW LOCATIONS, NEW TOPICS
This year, nine locations will offer interactive participation stations. Researchers from FHV – University of Applied Sciences will present exciting topics from their research projects, as will companies such as ALPLA, Blum, Hirschmann Automotive, Collini, Accurision, and Photeon Technologies.
On the other side of the Ach, opposite FHV, both young and old can explore the new building at CAMPUS V as well as the POSTGARAGE. A pop-up planetarium offers a special trip into space, the Pecha-Kucha Night promises exciting presentations in a lively setting, and together with the Vorarlberg brand and the Bezau Business Schools, rockets will be built.
In inatura, a butterfly lighthouse attracts moths with UV light, marking the start of the City Nature Challenge 2026. Curious visitors can learn more about small mammals, butterflies, and amphibians at various research stations.
The Ropeway Training Center of Doppelmayr will also open its doors again. The world market leader trains employees from around the world in cable car technology in Dornbirn's Bildgasse and will showcase what goes into ensuring a smooth ski day at LNF26.
In the Stiglingen industrial area, Eberle Automatische Systeme offers exciting insights into the world of robots: what language they speak, how they learn, and whether they can mimic our movements. Next door, the team from Henkel Sonderhoff demonstrates in a pneumatic test setup how compressed air generates movement and how a dosing machine works that sprays seals.
At the Vorarlberg Olympic Center, both young and old can discover their breath as a superpower and learn more about the diagnostics of concussions and athletic training based on the latest scientific standards. The Steinebach location in Dornbirn will celebrate its premiere. Visitors there can test a hail cannon, try their hand at clay construction, design a digital tooth, learn all about coffee roasting, and discover cool technology for electric cars at HENN.
It will be particularly exciting in Lustenau, where both young and old can find answers to these and many more questions: How does mustard get into the tube? Where did Neil Armstrong step onto the moon? How is the material for 3D printing created? And what does an excavated shard tell us about the lives of people in the past?
EXCITING UNTIL THE END
All exhibitors are already busy preparing their research stations and formats. Detailed information will be published starting in February. At the last Long Night of Research, over 100 exciting research stations could be discovered.
The Long Night of Research is free of charge. Shuttle buses connect all locations in Dornbirn and Lustenau, making it easy to visit multiple locations without a car. And traveling by bus and train to the event from all over Vorarlberg is also free with the VVV free ticket.

UNIQUE FORMAT
The Long Night of Research takes place every two years across Austria. The special feature of the event: The researchers themselves are on-site, explaining their world at eye level and answering all questions from young and old. At the research stations, technology, science, and research can be experienced up close.
