"Dragon Festival: Kites over the beach of Dangast" - with night flight show on Saturday

Colorful Giants in the Sky Above the Dangast Beach

Autumn is knocking at the door – it’s often a bit windier, and the kite season begins. From September 5th to 6th, the sky above Dangast Beach will once again be colorful. Kite flyers from all over Germany, as well as from the surrounding Friesland area, will come with their extraordinary exhibits and take to the skies above Dangast Beach with their colorful kite giants. Over 30 kite sports enthusiasts have announced their participation and will launch their kites into the air. You will see large kites measuring up to 20 meters in length, as well as stunt kites and box kites. Octopuses, fish, squids, and other sea creatures will be visible in the sky, along with owls, the superhero Batman, and other cartoon stars.

Visitors will have the opportunity on September 5th and 6th to receive an introduction to stunt kite flying from a professional kite flyer, possibly discovering the sport for themselves. Another highlight will occur on Saturday evening. As darkness falls, the kites will appear in a very special light. Illuminated or self-luminous, the flying objects will rise into the darkness. Especially against the backdrop of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wadden Sea and the brightly lit city of Wilhelmshaven on the other side of the Jade Bay, the illuminated kites will look particularly impressive. Spectators especially enjoy watching this spectacle from the dike.

Admission to the kite festival in Dangast is free.
