Adult workshop "Recreated" at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Monastery of Lorsch

The Lorsch Pharmacopoeia is the oldest known medical book of the Western Middle Ages and marks the beginning of the era of monastic medicine. 482 recipes demonstrate how well the knowledge of antiquity was preserved and utilized during the time of Charlemagne. Many of these formulations have proven effective for thousands of years or offer exciting insights for modern medicine. On a tour of our herb garden, you will learn about the most important medicinal plants of monastic medicine and immerse yourself in the history of early medieval healing practices. Together, we will prepare two selected original recipes from the Lorsch Pharmacopoeia that may soon find a permanent place in your home pharmacy!

There are three different dates:
May 30: Rose plaster and mint pill
June 20: Date paste and ox salt
October 17: Thyme ointment and costmary syrup
