The Divine Comedy

The Divine Comedy, Divina Commedia, is the main work of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri (1265–1321) and is considered the most significant poem in Italian literature and the foundation for the modern Italian language. In it, Dante describes stages of a journey through an afterworld. The Roman poet Virgil, who is also the author’s main character, guides him through Hell and Purgatory. Along their way, Dante and Virgil encounter countless souls of the deceased, who recount their respective fates. In Paradise, Dante finally meets his youthful love, Beatrice. In reuniting with her, the poet discovers the power of love and finds inner peace and tranquility. Recommended age: from 14 years.
