The young scientist Victor Frankenstein pursues an ambitious goal in Mary Shelley's 1818 novel of the same name: he assembles a human being from various body parts and attempts to bring it to life. However, when he comes face to face with his "creation," he is filled with sheer horror and flees from his own creation. Has he created a demonic monster or merely a vulnerable being longing for love and affection?
