BIFF SPECIAL: NAWI - DEAR FUTURE ME (With moderation in the presence of the filmmakers)

Nawi (Michelle Lemuya Ikeny) lives in rural Kenya, where big dreams often come to a quick end. She has a clear vision for her future, but the bitter economic hardship of her family forces her into a grim reality: she is to be married off against her will. Caught between the centuries-old traditions of her tribe and her unyielding desire for freedom, Nawi desperately searches for a way out. She fights not only for her own fate but also to change the lives of many girls in her community. The film by Toby Schmutzler, Kevin Schmutzler, Vallentine Chelluget, and Mourine Apuu Munyes was awarded a special prize at the "Peace Prize of the German Film – The Bridge" in 2025 and will be released in German cinemas by ATLAS INTERNATIONAL FILM on March 5, 2026 (distribution: Filmperlen). NAWI – DEAR FUTURE ME is the result of a unique collaboration between the Kenyan NGO program "Learning Lions," founded by Prince Ludwig of Bavaria, and the German production companies FilmCrew and Baobab Pictures.
