Oxymel is a mixture of honey and vinegar. It is also called sour honey, which corresponds to the translation of Oxymel from Greek: "oxy" means sour in Greek, and "mel" translates to honey. Thus, the taste is already described: Oxymel has a sweet-sour flavor. The use of Oxymel as a healing and strengthening remedy has a long tradition. Even in ancient times, the famous Greek physician Hippocrates of Kos is said to have used it in the treatment of his patients. Later, in our regions, several recipes and application recommendations can be found in the 12th century in the natural and healing practices of Hildegard of Bingen. It is especially known for its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, wound-healing, and antibacterial properties. We will stroll through the medicinal herb garden and collect wild herbs for a strengthening and cough-suppressing Oxymel tonic, which we will prepare for home use. Location: Garden area.
