National Park Mudflat Hike: To the Island of Norderney

From our meeting point in Neßmersiel, we head out to the mudflats via the Neßmersiel beach. The distance is approximately 7 km; upon arriving on the island, the path continues for another 4 km through the unique Norderney salt marsh and along the beach to the White Dune. From here, there is the option to take the island bus to the town or to the Norderney harbor (the bus ticket is not included in the ticket price; however, Germany tickets are accepted). From the harbor, you can then take the ferry to Norddeich; with the ferry at 16:15 from Norderney, you can still catch the bus from Norddeich to Neßmersiel (departure: 17:40). Alternatively, you can park your car/bike in Norddeich in the morning and take the bus at 7:45 to Neßmersiel (arrival in Neßmersiel town: 8:03, plus about 45 minutes of walking to Neßmersiel harbor). After the mudflat tour and ferry ride (at a time of your choice) back to the mainland, you can then head directly back to your car/bike. In addition to public transport, carpooling can be arranged in advance. If you are interested, please let us know; we are happy to assist with the coordination. Please contact us at least the day before the tour (04464 8403). Dogs are welcome to join the tour but must be kept on a leash on the island and in the mudflats. To avoid cuts on dog paws from shells, paw protection is strongly recommended. Tip for the crossing: West of Norderney is the island of Juist, where seals can almost always be seen on its offshore sandbank. So keep your eyes open on the ferry!
