Lauffen – a tour through history, poetry, and nature

Guided tour of the "Dörfle" district in Lauffen, focusing on Nachtigalleninsel. Cost: €6 per person Lauffen am Neckar is a historic town with remarkable figures and hidden gems. On a walking tour from the monastery courtyard in the "Dörfle" through "Lamparterpark" to the "Kiesplatz" at the mouth of the Zaber, we’ll take a journey through Lauffen’s eventful history, which began even before the Romans. One of the town’s most famous sons is the poet Friedrich Hölderlin. Since 2022, Lauffen has been officially designated a “Hölderlin Town.” We’ll learn more about him at several memorial sites, such as the artwork “Hölderlin at the Roundabout” and the Hölderlin Monument. This tour pays special attention to the diverse natural and cultural landscape in and around Lauffen. With the “Nachtigalleninsel” (Nightingale Island) behind the Rathausburg, Lauffen boasts a very special gem right in the middle of the Neckar River. This “bird island” was the first official nature reserve in all of Germany, purchased and protected by a private individual.
