Chamber music with star performers has long been a beloved tradition at HERBSTGOLD. This time, Julian Rachlin gathers an exquisite group of soloists for Johannes Brahms and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Brahms' String Sextet No. 2 is equally the intimate, technically sophisticated counterpart to the orchestral String Sextet No. 1, which was featured in the last festival edition. Tchaikovsky's equally precious String Sextet in D Minor has become famous as "Souvenir de Florence": In a hotel in Florence, the composer worked on his opera "The Queen of Spades" in 1889/90 and ultimately recalled the impressive night moods he experienced there, transforming them into music: a harmony of the world and solitude.
