Banter See 1, 26382 Wilhelmshaven

We offer (hobby) photographers the opportunity to extensively press their shutter buttons to capture photos of the common tern colony and its feathered inhabitants at Banter Lake. Migratory Birds National Park Wadden Sea INDOOR Common Terns Banter Lake Photography From the rooftop terrace of the new exhibition building, there is an especially good view of the colony without disturbing the birds. The common tern colony has been scientifically monitored very successfully for decades by the Institute for Bird Research - Bird Observatory Helgoland. Currently, there is a lot of activity in the colony, as the common tern parents are busy feeding hundreds of chicks with fish they have caught in Banter Lake or the Jade Bay. Of course, you also have the opportunity to independently explore the newly opened exhibition from last year on-site. There is much to discover there as well! Photos and videos provide insights into the lives of these small birds. The exhibition vividly presents the work of the scientists at the Institute for Bird Research and the long-term studies conducted here on the behavior of these small migratory birds. Researchers from all over the world come to Wilhelmshaven to observe and study the common terns at Banter Lake. In the exhibition forum, you can enter a replica of the breeding island and watch the lively activity in the bird colony through a large window overlooking Banter Lake.
