Lecture BUND World Natural Heritage Wadden Sea - A Story in Itself!

The UNESCO World Natural Heritage Wadden Sea connects one of the largest contiguous mudflat areas in the world across three countries. The presentation will explain what the designation as a World Natural Heritage site means – for the protection of this unique landscape and for the sustainable development of the region. The challenges that UNESCO sees in the Wadden Sea will also be highlighted – for example, the balance between nature conservation, tourism, and utilization. In the context of the UN Decade of Ocean Science (2021–2030), it will also be shown how the Wadden Sea is part of a global initiative for ocean protection.
