We are taking the Frankfurt exhibition and the 100th anniversary of the death of the great Impressionist Claude Monet as an opportunity to embark on a day trip tracing one of his outstanding motifs, the chalk cliffs of the Norman town of Étretat. "Monet's Coast, The Discovery of Étretat" is the title of the exhibition that will be on display from March 19 at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main. We are using this exhibition and the 100th anniversary of the French painter and great Impressionist Claude Monet's death as an occasion to follow in the footsteps of one of his prominent subjects, the chalk cliffs of the Norman town of Étretat. Monet captured the distinctive rock formations of this coast, especially the three rock arches, under changing light conditions and at different times of the day and in various weather conditions. It was largely through these paintings that Étretat became world-famous. But not only Monet, many other artists of the 19th century were fascinated by this coastal section located on the English Channel and found their motifs there. The Frankfurt exhibition on the artistic discovery of the former fishing village of Étretat and the influence of the place on modern painting presents around 170 outstanding paintings, drawings, photographs, and historical documents, including 24 works by Claude Monet alone. In addition to works by Eugène Delacroix, Gustave Courbet, Claude Monet, and Henri Matisse, it brings together a variety of other important positions in modern and contemporary art—from Eugène Le Poittevin to Camille Corot, Gustave Caillebotte, and Johann Wilhelm Schirmer to Elger Esser. Since our tours take place during lunchtime, we will not be able to have a joint lunch break in a restaurant. Please bring a small snack that can be eaten on the bus. After the tour, you will have the opportunity to remain in the exhibition, visit the museum's permanent collection, or reflect on your visit to the exhibition during a break, for example, at the café of the Städel or the neighboring café at the Liebieghaus. Departure: 06:45 AM: Bus station Tuttlingen (ZOB) 07:05 AM: Bus station Spaichingen 07:20 AM: Bus station Trossingen Arrival in Tuttlingen: approx. 08:15 PM; drop-off options in Spaichingen and Trossingen.
