Hybrid lecture by Dr. Nicola Wenge from the Documentation Center Oberer Kuhberg Ulm

The National Socialists needed only a few months to destroy democracy, establish a dictatorship, and eliminate all political opposition. Historian Nicola Wenge first explores the question of why the first German democracy could be so quickly dismantled in her lecture. She then discusses similarities and differences with the current situation and ultimately asks what can be derived from this historical-political comparison for strengthening democracy today. Dr. Nicola Wenge is the Scientific Director and Managing Director of the Documentation Center Oberer Kuhberg Ulm e.V. – KZ Memorial (DZOK). She has published numerous works on the history of National Socialism, anti-Semitism, and memory culture. Wenge holds a teaching position at the Institute for Historical Regional Studies at the University of Tübingen and is the spokesperson for the State Working Group of Memorials and Memorial Initiatives in Baden-Württemberg.
