For centuries, exotic tree species have been introduced in parks, cities, and – with a delay – also in forestry. Many of these species are now an integral part of our cultural landscape. While aesthetic and economic reasons were the primary considerations in the past, nature conservation and climate adaptation are now at the forefront – a topic that is often debated controversially.
In the cooperation project "WaldWandel" (BFW & UBA, 2019–2023), the opportunities and risks of non-native tree species were analyzed, and a method for risk assessment for practical use was developed. Project leader Dr. Silvio Schüler will present the results and will then be available for a discussion with the audience.
