Luis said, "Maybe this rock will eventually go away." "This rock" is a marker along a path in the eastern Andes of Colombia. It marks a route that leads from one village to another. At the same time, it carries a local cosmogony, a form of knowledge about the creation of the world. The oral tradition goes something like this: When it became light, significant characters of that time transformed into rocks to survive, to wait. In the state of waiting, a space opens up. The resting mineral contains an infinitely appearing latency, in which permanence and the possibility of change coexist. This exhibition explores how narratives, landscapes, and objects are preserved, transformed, and rewritten.
