The musical Hair was created in 1967 in New York and is considered the first major rock musical in history. It reflects the spirit of the late 1960s – a time marked by protests against the Vietnam War, the rise of the hippie movement, and the call for peace, love, and freedom. At its center is a group of young people – the so-called Tribe – who rebel in New York against war, racism, societal constraints, and political authority. They live by the motto "Make Love, Not War" and seek a life in harmony with nature and themselves. Central themes include freedom, identity, sexuality, and the rejection of the establishment. Book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado Music by Galt MacDermot German dialogues by Nico Rabenald.
