VOCAL ENSEMBLE GLAS - Powerful World Music
Artfully polyphonic female songs from Southeast Europe: From delicate harmonies to rapid rhythms (BG, BA, HR, SI, HU, IR, AT) – The magical polyphony of the Balkan regions.
“GLAS” is the word for “voice” in most Slavic languages. The vocal ensemble GLAS is a colorful mix from Vienna that simultaneously represents the cultural diversity of Vienna through the folk music of Southeast Europe. This diversity is reflected not only in the repertoire but also in the origins of the singers, who come from Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, and Bulgaria. Melodically and rhythmically, the polyphonic songs of the Balkan regions represent one of the most complex forms of European folk vocal music. The vocal ensemble GLAS takes the audience into this magical world: from longing songs of the Dalmatian coast to passionate Bosnian chants or wild Bulgarian heroic epics, to popular tunes from Macedonia.
