Mallwitz, Ott & Konzerthausorchester Berlin

With Joana Mallwitz and Alice Sara Ott, two exceptional artists are making their debut at the Brucknerhaus: The pianist of German-Japanese descent was recently described by The Guardian as a "superb soloist, brilliant in the more virtuosic passages of the music and in delicate, quieter moments of exquisite sensitivity." Mallwitz, on the other hand, has been one of the outstanding conductors of our time since she was appointed the youngest General Music Director in Europe at the age of just 27 in 2014 in Erfurt, setting new standards with her interpretations in the concert hall and in the orchestra pit. Together with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the artists present a program that navigates between light and darkness: In Ludwig van Beethoven's magnificent 3rd Piano Concerto, dark and grim passages alternate with classical lyricism, while Gustav Mahler's monumental 5th Symphony reflects the full spectrum of human existence, from the fateful trumpet calls of the funeral march in the first movement to the clarifying finale.
