Community music-making holds a particularly significant place at the Wels Music School. String students have the unique opportunity to play in an orchestra from the very beginning – initially, the youngest participate in the "Young Mozarts" and then, after gaining some experience, they perform in the larger orchestras "Sinfonietta Wels" and the "City Symphony Orchestra Wels."

In the "Sinfonietta," not only young people but also adult music students perform together.

The opportunity for soloists to perform with a large orchestra is a focal point of the orchestral work of Sinfonietta Wels – musical theater has also become a tradition: With the world premiere of the children's opera "Der Löwe Alois" by Ernst Ludwig Leitner, the orchestra performed for the first time in the new music school building Herminenhof in 2010.

In collaboration with "Musical Waves," several musical productions have been staged at the Wels City Theater: "Oliver Twist," "The Addams Family," "Shrek," and opera productions in cooperation with the opera studio of the Anton Bruckner University: "Bastien & Bastienne" by W. A. Mozart, "La Serva Padrona" by G.B. Pergolesi, and "Pimpinone" by G.Ph. Telemann.

As part of the Gmunden Festival Weeks in 2016, "The Bremen Town Musicians" by Fritz Neuböck was premiered – the musical story was also recorded on CD.

In cooperation with Jeunesse Wels, several musical fairy tales have already been presented, such as "Hans Glück in die Luft" with the artist duo "Ratz & Fatz," "The Nutcracker," "Hansel & Gretel," and "Peter and the Wolf."
