The musicians of the Owl Town Folk Scene (founded in 1974) come together to entertain guests with traditional jigs, reels, hornpipes, and songs from Ireland and Scotland. Typical instruments such as Uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes), harp, fiddle, flute, mandolin, bouzouki, and tin whistle create the authentic "sound." A small note: this is not(!) a concert, but a session. In Ireland, "session" refers to the informal gatherings of musicians (usually in pubs). There is no clear start or end time. There is no fixed band; anyone who has time can join. Sometimes musicians travel from afar or are just passing through, and they may have never played together before. There is no set program. They play "tunes," meaning (mostly Irish and Scottish) melodies that those present have in their repertoire and can play together as much as possible.
