Insects in Winter

It is cold, it is snowing, it is freezing. This year, winter is once again beautifully showcasing what it is all about. While we bundle up in thicker clothes and turn on the heating, nature has its own strategies for getting through the winter. Together with insect and spider expert Jonathan Neumann and springtail expert from the DJN (German Youth Association for Nature Observation) Alexis Tinker-Tsavalas, we will explore the question of what survival strategies insects have for the cold season, where we can find their traces in nature even in winter, and what different insects look like in their winter stages. After a theoretical introduction, we will spend about two hours outdoors searching for signs. Afterwards, we will have the opportunity to take a closer look at our findings from the field under the binocular microscope. For more information: More about the event.
