Free guided tour - Fritz Mühlenweg

As part of **International Museum Day**, Monika Leister will be giving a **free** guided tour of the MÜHLENWEGMUSEUM. Fritz Mühlenweg (born in 1898 in Konstanz and died in 1961 in Allensbach), a trained businessman, took part in Sven Hedin's last expedition to East Asia as an accountant from 1927 onwards and traveled through Mongolia three times until 1932. He later processed his encounters and impressions in two novels, numerous stories, poems, and pictures. In 1932, he met the painter and illustrator Elisabeth Kopriwa at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. After their marriage, they settled in Allensbach in 1935 and lived there with their seven children. His first printed book was published in 1946 and consisted of adaptations from the Chinese Book of Songs, the Shijing. This was followed in 1950 by the award-winning book "In geheimer Mission durch die Wüste Gobi" (On a Secret Mission through the Gobi Desert), which was translated into eight languages. The Mühlenweg Museum presents this exciting biography with its breaks and continuities, from merchant and Mongolia traveler to artist, and above all Mühlenweg's achievement in narrative cultural mediation. On display are photographs, the expedition film, exhibits, a film project featuring contemporary witnesses, and amazing items on loan from the family and from the estate. The **Allensbach Archaeology and Local History Museum** will also open its doors from 2 to 5 p.m. A guided tour will begin at 3 p.m. A glass of wine and fine puff pastries will be served as a welcome.
