Steve Luxembourg: On the Return

Topographies, whether in the form of mountain archetypes or concrete landscapes and places from his home regions of the Black Forest and Alsace, are a significant theme in the work of Steve Luxembourg. For the first time, the artist living in Kandern will present the new photographic series Passage, Aus der Herde (2025/26), and Val (2024/25) at the Markgräfler Museum, in which he highlights and stages the landscape, agricultural, and spiritual elements of this region—liberated from our accustomed normative ways of seeing. The connecting element is the return, inviting mindful observation, the exploration of secrets in the local environment, engagement with one’s own biography, and the ambivalence of "home." Steve Luxembourg, born in 1993 in Rheinfelden/Baden, studied Fine Arts at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Braunschweig and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. He is a prizewinner of several competitions in artistic photography and has recently exhibited in venues including the Städtische Galerie Braunschweig and the Heimat- und Keramikmuseum Kandern.
