TANGO AND FOLIA Youth Concert KALIT Youth Ensemble Catherine Aglibut, Martin Ripper – Musical Direction "La Folia" stands for folly, madness, or insanity and refers to a musical model from the 16th to 18th centuries, over which improvisations were made or variations were composed. Arcangelo Corelli and Antonio Vivaldi are the most famous masters of this model, but Folia was already played and, of course, danced much earlier during the Renaissance. Improvisation and communication are also important components of tango, which emerged only in the 20th century. Each dance couple interprets the music individually, allowing their own versions to emerge through improvisation, just like in Folia. On this morning, an exciting combination of these different styles can be experienced at the KulturKirche, played with the charm and spirit of the young generation! The KALIT Ensemble is a creative sound body of young musicians that was formed as part of the KALIT Music and Literature Festival at Gutshaus Friedenfelde (Brandenburg). Here, historical playing styles meet vibrant music-making practices: Early music, traditional melodies, and improvisational elements merge into a contemporary expression that rethinks musical history. Under the artistic direction of Martin Ripper and Catherine Aglibut, both experienced members of the lautten compagney BERLIN, the ensemble explores interplay, forms of expression, and creative engagement with sound beyond the notes. The aim of the project is to promote young talents and to create a lively bridge between baroque tradition and today's present through collaborative music-making. The results are regularly presented at concerts within the KALIT Festival and at other events, including already at the AEQUINOX Music Days 2025.
