IN HONOR OF EVA STRITTMATTER Memorial event at the Eva-Strittmatter Square and reading at the Neuruppin Museum

The Fontanestadt Neuruppin and the Neuruppin Museum invite you to a commemoration of the writer Eva Strittmatter on Sunday, February 8, 2026. At 1 PM, Mayor Nico Ruhle will welcome guests to the memorial event at Eva-Strittmatter-Platz. Afterwards, floral tributes will be laid there together. This year, all participants are asked to bring a bowl of early bloomers, which can later be planted in the square as a sustainable sign of remembrance. Following this, the Neuruppin Museum and the Kleist Museum Foundation invite you to a reading titled "Locations of the Childhood City: Eva Strittmatter in Neuruppin" at 2:30 PM. Illustrated time travel with Gabriele Radecke and Robert Rauh. Eva Strittmatter's "pre-existence as a poet" is closely linked to her "childhood city" Neuruppin. In this "small town," she grew up in "rather limited circumstances," found her first "great love," and began writing her first poems. And here she suffered a "life injury." Gabriele Radecke and Robert Rauh will take you on a journey through time to the historical locations of Eva Strittmatter's youth in Neuruppin. Dr. Gabriele Radecke, head of the Literary Archive of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, and Robert Rauh, historian and publicist, will read from their jointly authored volume "Eva Strittmatter in Neuruppin [1930–1947]" from the series Frankfurter Buntbücher of the Kleist Museum Foundation, published in 2025 by the Verlag für Berlin-Brandenburg. This is a collaborative event by the Kleist Museum Foundation and the Neuruppin Museum.
