During a 5-kilometer hike through the Döberitzer Heide, Dr. Jörg Müller will immerse participants in the captivating world of these ancient land plants. Over 200 species thrive in this area, which was once used for military purposes. The inconspicuous plants exist wherever other plants fail. There, they unfold a diversity that we humans often overlook or even combat, thanks to their pioneering spirit. Mosses play important roles in our ecosystems: Some species store large amounts of CO₂ or water. Additionally, mosses are excellent bioindicators that reveal much about air quality and soil acidity. The expert from the Heinz Sielmann Foundation will share even more exciting facts during the field trip. This extensive exploration of the world of mosses is suitable for anyone who wants to take a closer look at the small beings that greet us daily from fields and meadows, pavement cracks, walls, and tree bark in hundreds of different shades of green. Registration is required. We also recommend sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. If you have one, feel free to bring a magnifying glass.
