5 Million Pesos: Lukas Meißl As part of the series for young jazz in and from Austria, pianist Lukas Meißl is a guest with his trio OSTstyrian Rhythm Section at Andreas Felber's venue. The pianist from East Styria, Lukas Meißl, was already active in bands such as the Max Kreuzer Octet or the funk band Candlelight Ficus while studying at the jazz department of the University of Arts in Graz under Olaf Polziehn. With his own trio, the OSTstyrian Rhythm Section, he released the remarkable concept album "Great Austrian Songbook" in 2024. In this work, Meißl, along with his partners Maximilian Kreuzer (bass) and Andreas Reisenhofer (drums), approaches iconic compositions that are considered the musical embodiment of "Austrian" from a jazz perspective: The "Danube Waltz" is just as essential as Wolfgang Ambros' anthem "Schifoan" or Falco's chart-topping hit "Rock Me Amadeus," as well as the Austropop pioneering piece "Wie a Glock'n," made famous by Marianne Mendt. It is a delicate journey into potentially cliché-laden territories, which Lukas Meißl navigates with wit and creativity – featuring guest artists Peter Kunsek (clarinet), Ines Reiger (vocals), and Christian Bakanic (accordion), one or more of whom may also appear at the Vienna RadioCafe. In collaboration with the Ö1 Jazz editorial team.
