Master Concerts: Choir Concert with Folk Songs from the Carinthian Border Region

On Saturday, May 16, the mixed choir "Podjuna" from Pliberk/Bleiburg will perform as part of a bonus concert of the Master Concerts St. Pölten at 6:30 PM in the Former Synagogue. The choir from the Carinthian border region brings with it Slovenian folk songs.

The choir was founded in 1974 and brings together singers from the Jauntal (Podjuna) in Southern Carinthia. Its repertoire mainly includes Slovenian folk and art songs, (folk) songs in various languages, as well as sacred works – from the Renaissance to contemporary arrangements. Concerts are often project-based and frequently created in collaboration with other artists.

"Podjuna" is active both nationally and internationally, having performed in Austria, Slovenia, and Italy, and the choir has also undertaken concert tours to the Czech Republic and Germany. Since 2005, it has been represented at the International Advent Singing in the Vienna City Hall and has performed at "Singing at its Finest" as well as the "Gala Night of Choirs" in Carinthia. The choir received an "Excellent" rating at the Carinthian Choir Competition, and in 2023 it was awarded "Choir of the Year" at the ORF Carinthia Choir Competition.

Under the direction of Anja Kapun, the concert in the unique atmosphere of the Former Synagogue promises an impressive evening full of sonic diversity and cultural exchange.
