First "Stoffwechsel" in Hann. Münden Textile Exchange Market Sets a Sign for Conscious Consumption With the first textile exchange market "Stoffwechsel" on Friday, March 20, 2026, the multi-generational house is creating a sustainable alternative to disposing of well-preserved clothing. One of the reasons for this initiative is the reduction of old clothing containers in the region, which leaves many citizens wondering where to put wearable textiles. At the same time, large quantities of usable clothing continue to end up in the trash. The event aims to address this issue and promote more conscious textile consumption. Under the motto "Swap instead of throw away," "Stoffwechsel" combines practical help with information and exchange. The goal is to keep textiles in circulation longer, conserve resources, and raise awareness of the ecological and social consequences of fast fashion.

The process is intentionally simple and accessible: Starting at 3 PM, visitors can drop off well-preserved, clean, and wearable textiles in the foyer of the Geschwister-Scholl-Haus. Up to ten items will be accepted per person. In addition to clothing, home textiles such as bed linens or curtains can also be exchanged. Shoes, bags, backpacks, and accessories will not be accepted. For each item dropped off, participants will receive a swap token. The exchange area opens at 4 PM. Until 7 PM, visitors can use their tokens to search for new favorite pieces at tables and clothing racks and exchange them.

In addition to the textile exchange, guests can expect an information booth and an infotainment corner in the foyer. Under the guiding principle "Change – Repair – Recycle: A Second Life for Textiles," creative ways to reuse clothing will be presented. Live demonstrations at the sewing machine will vividly show how damaged or discarded pieces can be repaired or redesigned. Informational materials will also shed light on the global impacts of textile production and consumer behavior. A cozy atmosphere will be created with comfortable seating and a coffee and cake offering.

With "Stoffwechsel," the organizers aim not only to provide a concrete solution for excess clothing but also to encourage a change in mindset: buy less new, appreciate existing resources, and use textiles for as long as possible. The event is organized by the multi-generational house in Hann. Münden – with support from members of the Future Round Table Citizen Meeting and volunteers from the region.
