Hike through the Celtic oppidum Heidengraben: On historic trails, we discover pincer gates, ramparts, nature, and gain exciting insights into Celtic history, geology, and flora and fauna—including admission to the Heidengraben Center. Experience the Heidengraben on an impressive excursion that uniquely combines history, nature, and geology. On a circular tour of around 3 kilometers with a walking time of about three hours, you will immerse yourself in the landscape and past of the Swabian Alb and discover the remains of one of the most important Celtic settlements in Europe. The starting point is the **Zangentor G** near the Bassgeige parking lot. From here, you will follow in the footsteps of the Celts through the extensive oppidum that once stretched between Erkenbrechtsweiler, Hülben, and Grabenstetten. The trail leads through the so-called Elsachstadt with its mighty ramparts and gateways, giving you an impressive sense of the dimensions of this large Celtic settlement.
Along the way, you will learn exciting facts about the geological formation of the Alb plateau, the characteristic landscape and the diverse flora and fauna of the area. At the same time, you will gain vivid insights into the life of the Celts around 3,000 years ago – from settlement structure and defense to everyday life and the environment.
A scenic highlight of the tour is the **Lauereckfelsen**, which offers a sweeping view of the Swabian Alb. Finally, Celtic culture comes to life once again at the Heidengrabenturm and in the **Heidengrabenzentrum**, rounding off the excursion.
The meeting point is the Celtic Zangentor G near Erkenbrechtsweiler, close to the Bassgeige car park. Please bring weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and sure-footedness. This tour is aimed at anyone who wants to not only hear about history, but also experience it outdoors in the field.
